CHINYERO VULCANO VISITOR AND INTERPRETATION CENTRE

In Santiago del Teide, volcanic history is not only explored on foot: it can also be understood, felt and discovered through the educational experience of the Chinyero Vulcano Visitor and Interpretation Centre.

This modern and accessible space offers a journey through the volcanology of Tenerife, with special attention to the eruption of the Chinyero vulcano in 1909, the last one recorded on the island. An eruption that not only altered the landscape of the municipality, but also the lives of those who lived there.

Its design combines audiovisual and interactive resources with backlit panels, making it one of the most innovative centres for scientific and geological dissemination in the Canary Islands.

Much more than a volcano

The centre is not limited to the study of the Chinyero eruption. In its rooms, visitors can explore the island’s volcanic formation, understand how landscapes are born and evolve, and discover how the volcano has influenced the life, culture and customs of the municipality.

One of its most notable rooms is the Chinyero Eruption Projection Room, where visitors can view a recreation of the eruption that occurred in 1909 and how it was experienced by the inhabitants of the Valle de Santiago.

A starting point for discovery

The Chinyero Vulcano Visitor and Interpretation Centre serves as a gateway for those who wish to explore the Chinyero Special Nature Reserve from a deeper and more reflective perspective.

Ideal for families, schoolchildren, hikers and geology enthusiasts, a visit here is an excellent way to begin your tour of one of Tenerife’s most iconic volcanic landscapes.
